Did you miss me??

June17

I know, I know, I went missing for a bit, but guess what, Abby is Here! She was born 2/26/11, healthy, happy and adorable:

And, although the girls keep me insanely busy, I still have time to craft. Here is some of the stuff I worked on while I was away from the blogland:

A felted Mummy eg for a dear friend:

Cuffs and a matching hat out of Madeline Tosh for my niece:

Mom sporting a gorgeous cowl that I test knit for a friend – and which mom has now commandeered as her own.

Ok, I’ll stop now, I’ll save some of the other stuff for another post. Yes, I have done more in the past 6 months than I have in the past 3 years!!

On top of all that, Rich and I have been working on our etsy shop. He’s been working madly away on Sock Blockers:

but has decided to take a hiatus for the summer so he can enjoy the summer weather and get the yard done (from a whole new irrigation system to new lawn and plants – this guy is AWESOME!).

I’ve been working on my stitch markers:

I love making these, and coming up with new color creations and movie connections is even more fun!

“Oh, that Jim Williams went and shot somebody. Canapé?” – Joe Odom – Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Bah, what else, I’m knitting away on a Bitterroot just for me out of Wollmeise, I feel so spoiled to be knitting for myself for a change. Go figure.

Oh, and I also painted Abby’s bedroom wall, freehand:

If you’re still reading, KUDOS to you and hopefully I haven’t exhausted you with all this mad crafting!! I’m happy to be back to the blog – man, this really made me think about how much I’ve been creating – HOLY COW!

Etsy Treasuries

February1

Have any of you ever played around with these? I find that, although I love adding things to my favorites, keeping a treasury of specific searches I’ve done is a better way for me to track what I really love out there. If they get featured on the etsy front page – yay for the etsy sellers! If not, that wasn’t my original intent, so no loss.

What treasuries do you have set up? I’d love to see them!

Here are mine for you to drool over:

Sock Blockers up on Etsy

January22

A while back I tried talking my husband into making some sock blockers for me. He hemmed and hawed a bit – not being a knitter himself and not appreciating what a luxury sock blockers are, until I showed him some I’d seen online.  Being the crafty person he is, he KNEW he could make them for me and wondered if he should make more and if he could sell them on etsy. I figured it was worth a shot! I’m so proud of the work he does (he’s a plumber by trade, but in the past year has learned some amazing carpentry skills), so I am proud to announce that he now has sock blockers for sale on etsy at my shop!

Here’s a link to the shop:

Knitting on OVERDRIVE!

January17

I apparently went a little bonkers in the past month since my last post and went into knitting OVERDRIVE. I think it has something to do with the impending birth of Daughter #2 – to be named Abby, Due on March 5th. I have this fear, that even on maternity leave, I will have no time to knit.

So what did I do? I went CRAZY! After knitting Maggie’s stocking I knit up all of these creations:

This Lush-ious Swirl Cowl:

This Easy Mobius Cowl, as a commission piece:

This Sheep Toy for my dear friend:

These Fishtail Wristwarmers, that I originally knit in bare yarn, then dyed black after they were knit up:

These Can Can’s as a commission piece:

These gorgeous Veyla gloves, as a commission piece (knit out of handspun yarn – divine yarn!):

This noble cowl for a dear friend:

I also finished up another cowl as a test knit – the Drean Cowl, but it’s still blocking, so I’m waiting for it to dry before I take any pics.
Did that exhaust you enough? I’m pooped just looking at all those projects, but it makes me so happy at the same time!

I have one other project on the needles, the Flower Scarf - which was sent to me by my husband’s aunt – with a note asking me to save it. The yarn is so soft, a lovely silk alpaca blend….twist my arm! It came along with my Christmas present – a Wii Fit! WOOHOO! Although i can’t use it in my current state of Preggoness, I will definitely be using it after Abby arrives! Extra bonus, yarn to knit with and exercise equipment! LOL! I’m hoping to have the scarf done for her within the next week.

The next four projects on the list:

Bella’s Mittens out of Malabrigo Merino Worsted (commission)

Honeybee Cardigan – for mom, after she saw how the Featherweight Cardigan was knitting up – and I thought I was going to poke my eyes out with the needles due to boredom over knitting so much stockinette, we decided on Honeybee instead, and i dyed up this yarn for her just for this sweater

- and she’s asked if I have any left over, that I knit her a pair of the Veyla mitts (I had the wrangle them away from her just to get them mailed to the person who asked me to knit them for her!).

The third project on the list is a pair of Wristwarmers with Falling Leaves for my sister. She wants them in Charcoal gray, and some kind soul donated the yarn for them to me , some lovely Merino Cashmenere Microfiber Rowan RYC Cashsoft DK- i just need to dye it, which I’m hoping to do once mom comes back for Abby’s birth.

and the forth: a cowl for mom – the Blackberry Cowl. which she bought some VERY fun glass buttons for and I will be knitting up with some lovely Berroco Silk Merino Blend.

The Draen Cowl is my first official Project for 12in2011, the group I am helping my dear friend, Kristen, moderate. The group has just grown by leaps and bounds, and I think it says a lot about the concept and the awesome managerial skills of my friend – ARRRG – and her Pirate Rules. Our first round of prize awards will be handed out in February – I think that will be the first test of the success of this group – otherwise, that’s just gravy – to see that there are already 102 finished projects within the group, and that’s just official 12in2011 projects, I’m so impressed!! Here’s a link to the projects I’m hooping to get done for the 12in2011 project.

SOOoooooo – have I inspired you to pull our you needles and GET KNITTING?

Maggie’s Christmas Stocking is DONE!

December3

I managed to finish this stocking in 5 days! That’s some sort of record for me!

I will eventually make the rest of us stockings, but in the meantime, Rich and I have stockings I made years ago out of velvet, so We’re set for this winter.

I’m busy working on a sheepie, and waiting for some yarn to come in to start a cowl for a friend and a hat for someone else.

But tomorrow is all about Christmas! We’re headed out to the woods to cut down our own tree! Don’t worry, this is all legal, we bought a permit from the forest service so allow us to go to specific areas of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to cut down our own tree. I can’t wait!! We’re going to bundle up Maggie and take a short trek, I have to remember to take the camera!

More minions, a turtle, a cowl, and apparently my mojo is back! 12in2011!

November29

Well, apparently my knitting mojo is BACK in full force. I am so inspired to knit every day, that I feel so much more relaxed than I have in quite a while. I need to remember this when I get back into a funk about my knitting.

I have found a project that has helped inspire me. A dear friend of mine started a group called 12in2011 to get us stash bust – 12 projects, one per month, starting 1/1/11. They can be anything, not even knitting related, just creative – craft related, to keep our mojo flowing. I have my full list of knitted projects I plan on doing here, but what’s not on the list is the sweater I’m working on for my mom, which I won’t finish until 2011, at the rate I’m going (long purl rows make me want to stab my eye out). Notice that the Orangie is at the top of the list? Yup, i plan on doing that one after all, I can’t wait to get started on it! But I have a couple other items to get started on first, including a cowl for a friend, who is sending me the yarn for it, I’m hoping that arrives some time next week. I have the sweater on the needles right now, and I’m finding I REALLY need something else to work on other than the sweater…who knew stockinette stitch was so BORING. So I cast on a Christmas Stocking for Maggie, and I am LOVING IT! It is moving along smoothly (now I’ve jinxed it), and I’m inspired to make them for the whole family (OK, just the DH and I…and the little monkey when she arrives next year). The pattern I’m using is the Cascade Christmas Stocking, another free pattern. I highly recommend it, it’s much easier that the original instructions may imply.

But, in avoidance of the sweater, I knit up 2 minions:

This second one is part of a surprise swap for someone and it is intended to be an ornament.

I also knit up a turtle:

And a Lush-ious Swirl Cowl, which I have yet to block, so pics to come in the next week or so (I hate blocking, it takes me forever to just get motivated to do it, but I PROMISE to get it done sooner than later, I love this yarn too much to let this one just sit.

Oh, and I’m also working on a sheepie for earlier noted dear friend, it’s coming along, but set aside for the stocking for the moment.

Here’s a pic of some other ones people have made, too cute!

Hmmm…can you tell the Mojo is back in full force??

I also just learned how to add my project progress bars off on the right hand side, so you can all keep track of where I’m at on my projects I’m currently working on! I LOVE RAV! I’ve also added a box for 12in 2011 so you can keep track of how many of my 12 I’ve completed! The games begin in a month!

First Pair of Socks! And, Please, I Need Help Picking out a Pattern!

November15

Yes, it’s true, I finished my first full pair of socks (I knitted one sock a long time ago with a different yarn and a different pattern, hated it and never even started the 2nd sock)! I love these pair, and will probably never knit another pair, I’m just not a sock knitter, but I DO love this pair!!

I used the Migration pattern by my friend Lydia, which was wonderful, so clear and detailed, along with doing it on 2 sets of circular needles and knitting two at a time (shown in this post) taught to me by Shawn, my hero. I knew that if I only knit one sock at a time, I would NOT ever get around to knitting second for fear it would never match the first. The Yarntini yarn was so soft, it feel so AMAZING on my feet.

I’m going to start my next project in the next few days, after I finish up a couple super secret ornaments I can’t reveal until I ship them off to my swap partner.

Dilemma: I have this yarn, James C. Brett Marble Chunky, which is incredibly soft,

and I would like a large cowl sort of thing that i can wear over my sweater coat, which has no collar. I am debating between the Orangie Pattern

and the Sweetgum Pattern:

Which do you think I should knit up?

Completed Saroyan, Fairy Butt and Starting a Featherweight Sweater…well sort of.

November12

So, I have managed to be creative, although not as much as I would like (I would prefer to create 24/7, but life gets in the way). I completed the Saroyan I knitted out of the Miss Babs yarn (divine!), and I sent it off to my aunt as a thank you (never thank you enough) for being my doula.

Oh, and I opened a Cafe Press Shop. I have a few ideas for designs, but am starting off with a basic store, so I’m limited in what I can offer at the moment. But take a look, let me know what you think!

I also made Maggie her Halloween Costume (OK, just the Tutu, headband and the Wings, but that was plenty enough for me!).

Our official Trick-or-Treat Watcher:

I made a custom set of stitch markers, and was reminded why i have gone on a sculpting hiatus, I’d rather be knitting or playing with Maggie. but these were too cute not to share:

And started on this sweater for my mom.

It’s the Featherweight Cardigan, and although it is meant to be done in lace, I have figured out recently that if I work with lace, it will get done in 20 years….I am doing it in fingering weight so I can at least get it done this decade (hopefully by the new year). It’s raglan, seamless (YAY), so it has been a quick knit so far, but slightly mind numbing, with no detail work to do.

Other than that, I received a couple new yarns through swapping, including some Spud & Chloe Fine (nummy nummy), and waiting on some yarns and (the horror) some commissioned works I asked some other people to make for me for family. I KNOW my limitations, and it seemed easier to trade some stuff to get some stuff made for me instead. I’ll post pics when those come in. I’m hopeful that it all works out well, I’ve never commissioned work before.

I’ve also started up a Cafe Press shop. I have a few different ideas for designs, but I’m starting with a basic shop, so I’m limited on what I can offer for now. Take a look and let me know what you think! I absolutely love the tote bag!

OHOH!!! I just realized I never shared my hand dyed yarn that I did with iJaquard dyes!! What is wrong with me!

Here is my Phish Food yarn:

and My Leaf Peepers Yarn:

One of these days I will get back into this, but until then, this is all there was, it’s been swapped already, surprise surprise.
